Alfred Vincent (1877 - 1947), active in London from 1902, was awarded first prize at the Cobbett Competition, London in 1923, the year he made this violin. He completed over 300 instruments, including a quartet bequeathed to the Royal Academy of Music. His work was fine and was based on a Stradivari model often with this deep red-brown varnish.
